Needlepoint Progress – January 2018

Happy dance! HAPPY DANCE!!! The first finish for the month was posted a little while ago. Alice Peterson’s ABC that is now at the framer’s.

The shouted happy dance is for the ASOW Tall Ship, which was finished this afternoon. Here is the bottom of the canvas:

The water was stitched with Bravo, using two plies, in a zigzag pattern.

I used up 1 card of Bravo, 7 skeins and 2 partial skeins of floss, 2 full and 4 partial skeins of old Needle Necessities thread. All of this was in my stash!

This was quite a challenge and took 6 months to finish. (I still have about 4 threads for rigging that need to be tightened.)  Here is the finale:

With two projects done this month, I’m now free to start two new projects. For downstairs, I am going to stitch the C A T by Cheryl Schaeffer. I’m still waiting for a couple threads, but I’ve start the background for the C using white Pepper Pot Silk in Nobuko stitch. The letters are about 8 inches tall, which is smaller than most of my projects. I’ve only worked on it one evening so far.

Upstairs, the new larger canvas is the Teddy Bear Stocking by Barbara Fox for DH’s granddaughter. Again, only one hour of stitching so far. Marshmallow variegated Pepper Pot Silk was used for the floorboards, stitched in Beaty stitch.

When I need a change of pace upstairs, I can work on the Qum rug for a few days.

2018 Needlepoint Plans

(I scheduled this post to appear this morning. Not only did it not show up, it’s no longer on my computer!! I’ll keep checking and if the duplicate shows up, I’ll delete it. Don’t know what WordPress is up to at this point.)

Projects completed in 2017:

Anatolia Rug – my design

Ghiradelli Square by Peter Ashe

Tumak by Gitta

Country Cabin Panel by Laura Perin

6 ornaments

For 2018 I plan to finish several WIPs:

  1. My blue/green pillow design (I have more done than the photo below)

2. Purple Heron by Melissa Shirley

3. ASOW Tall Ship – posted yesterday

4. ABC piece – posted yesterday

5. Work on Persian Qum rug – though I don’t think it will be completed in 2018 – posted yesterday

And I want to start 3 new pieces:

  1. Teddy Bear stocking by Barbara Fox

2. Tropical Punch by DebBee Designs

3. C A T by Cheryl Schaeffer

4. And I’ll do several ornaments as well

I know I need to cut down on the number of projects I have going at the same time – 6 right now (or 7?). I don’t want more than 2 needlepoint projects to work on at any one time from now on. So I need to finish the tall ship and the alphabet pieces and THEN I can start on the stocking for DH’s new granddaughter. If I get to the point where I want to start one of the other projects, then the Persian Qum rug will be put away for a month so I can work on the new project. Let’s see if I can stick to this one New Year’s resolution.

It’s going to be a busy needlepoint year!! My cross stitch plans for the year will be posted at the end of the week.

Happy New Year to you all!!

Barbara Fox Needlepoint Closing

This is a 21″ stocking by Barbara Fox on 13 ct mesh. I bought this for our new granddaughter Penelope. I’ll be stitching it for next year.

While I was browsing the web last week, I decided to visit Barbara’s website again to see what other canvases she had. I love the two trees that are shown on her New page. I saw a note at the bottom of her home page that says she is closing her needlepoint business. I wrote to her to see if she had one of the tree canvases that I really liked (she didn’t) and another Christmas stocking (which she had on 13 and 18 ct). I bought the 13 ct. one! She no longer has time to do the needlepoint designs – too busy with other projects. I hate to see her go.

Her website is:      http://www.barbarafoxneedlepoint.com

She is selling all the stock she has on hand, so do a little browsing and see if you can pick up some beautiful, new canvases at a discount.

She has a lot of flower, garden, teddy bear, and Christmas canvases (ornaments and a few stockings). Just send her an email with the number and name of the canvas you would like to purchase and she’ll get back to you and let you know if she has it in stock and what the cost will be. I paid with PayPal.  (This was written with her permission.)

Hope you find something you’ll love to stitch!
