Cross Stitch Update – January 2018

Staying with the promise to myself to only have two projects going at one time, here is the update for the month.

I’m still working on my Cats on a Staircase stocking. It was here last month”

I’ve finished two more cats and some of the spindles on the staircase have been started. Just above the siamese cat will be just the head of a cat that is peeking around the spindle that will be stitched just to the right of the siamese cat. There are still two more whole cats to go after that.

The other project I want to get done is the Norfolk Diligence Sampler. It was here last month:

The border on the left side is just about done – only about 3 more rows of blue to finish it off. And I’ve added a few blue  stitches so you can see where the border fits across the bottom. The first octagon is completed and I’ve been outlining the next two octagons so I can get the second one started. Here is it today:

I’m hoping my hands feel better and I’ll get more done over the next month. I’d like to have the stocking finished by then and one more octagon finished on the sampler plus more of the bottom border. The over one stitching inside the octagons is very difficult for me and I’m sure I’ll never do another project on 40 ct that has parts stitched over one thread. That’s what is really slowing me down on this project.

My Turn – a Christmas Stocking

I did 5 stockings last year and now have two to do next year. So this is MY year and I’ve started a stocking for myself.

This is an old Dimensions kit that I bought several years ago because: 1. I love cats 2. We have a staircase like this in our home, 3. The two cats at the bottom look like our cats Julius and Daisy. Unfortunately, Julius and Daisy are no longer with us.

Starting at the center, I decided to work the bottom, left part of the stocking working down to the toe. Then I’ll do the heel and work my way up to the top. I work on it several times a week for about an hour at a time. Here is where I stopped last night:

I’ve spent several evenings working on the Julius look-a-like but I don’t have the tail done or the front paw yet. The outlining of the ornaments and edges of the newel post have been done. The stripes are the wall paper and there’s more of that to come.

I’ll need to spend more time on it starting next month if I want it done for Christmas this year. After a week, the first cat still isn’t done and there are 8 cats on the stocking! LOL

WIPocalypse 2015 – December

The year is ending and  I’m looking over my progress for the year. I didn’t complete a lot of projects but started or worked on a lot of mainly large projects. Many of them will continue on to the 2016 list for completion. So here is a review of my projects for 2015.

  1. Persian Iris Mandala – it started here:

PI-Prog26

Progress now:

Persian Iris 3rd corner-4

2. Gossamer Fractal – no progress at all

Gossamer-9

3. Father Christmas – I restarted this after advice from all of you (thank you!). This is where I left him this year:

Father C-7

4. Norfolk Diligence Sampler – here’s where I started in January:

NF Sampler - 5

Progress to date:

NF Sampler 12B

5. Hometown Holidays – I started with 2 waiting to be stitched and it’s grown to 4 during the year. I completed the Village Church and started the Fire House. More to be stitched  next year.

Church-2

Fire St-2

6. Bright Sea Express – Started, but not even one car of the 4 completed.

Express 5

7. Chapter Tiles – I started the first of the two tiles. There is a mistake somewhere around the middle, so I’m going to do the border all the way around and then slowly work toward the center, hoping to find and correct the mistake. Here’s my progress:

Chapter 2-3

8. Frosty Forest – not started

9. 2 Mill Hill Bead ornaments – not started

10. NOEL Quadrille – not started

Pieces that were added during the year:

  1. My own design – Hearts & Flowers was designed and stitched.

Hearts Finale

2. 3 ornaments for my granddaughters – Playful Snowmen are not done (one is almost done)

Snowman 1-3

3. Polar Express – started. Here is my progress:

Polar-3

4. Train Stocking for DH – Here’s my progress. I finished the first car full of trees, added two more cars and started a third one. I’ll continue to work on it until it is done and made into a stocking for next year:

Train station 9

5. Patchwork Sampler Serenity – started ( to be worked on next year)

Serenity-1

Summing up:

2 completed

2 WIP made some progress

7 started

4 no progress

I hope I can do better in 2016. I want to complete the projects that have now been started so I’ll have more than 2 completions for the year.

WIPocalypse 2015 and DESIGN  both helped me make progress on some projects and start some wonderful pieces to work on next year. Looking forward to seeing everything the rest of you have worked on this year! Happy stitching!!

WIPocalypse 2015 – October

Since I took a two week break from stitching to go to a wedding and rest my hands, I’m having trouble getting started again. I fear I won’t get things done for Christmas. We’ll see. I only worked on two pieces over the last two weeks – and not much on either of them.

Playful Snowmen ornaments – I’m still working on the first one and have two more to do for my granddaughters. Getting close on this one but it has a lot of backstitching as well.

Snowman 1-3

Train stocking – Still don’t have the bottom half completed. The cow catcher on the front of the train is done and I’ll be working my way up the rest of the engine now and filling in what little is around the sides of the train as well.

Train st 7

Hopefully I can get more done next month.

Our question this month – What fibers or materials used in stitching are you nervous to try? I don’t like rayon threads, but I do use some of them. I’ve never tried them in cross stitch though. Backstitching with metallic threads drives me crazy, and there is a lot of that in the mandala (which didn’t see any attention this month),

WIPocalypse 2015 – September

Very little progress this month and I’m stressing that I’m not getting things done. So I’m taking a two week stitching break. Life has been getting in the way and I’ll be spending a few days with family as well. I need to relax and find other things to do for a while. Then I should be ready to go again.

  1. Persian Iris Mandala – some of the buildings are beginning to appear, but not the gold top stitching yet.

3rd corner-2

2. Polar Express – a few trees in the car to the left but not the trees above the car.

Polar-4

3. Playful Snowmen – the second snowman is now on the sled, but the sled isn’t there yet. And no backstitching either. It’s half done with two more in this set to do yet.

Snowman 1-2

4. Train stocking – just started the front of the engine. Really wanted the locomotive done this month…

WIPocalypse 2015 – August

As I said in the last WIPocalypse post, I’ve put away a lot of the larger pieces to go back to later. I haven’t gotten a lot done this month since I decided that as long as I was putting away things, I should go through everything and get rid of materials that I know I won’t need anymore. I now have 3 boxes of craft materials to give away. My closet looks a lot better now, even though I haven’t finished going through of it.

So the projects for this month, and until they are done, are:

  1. Persian Iris Mandala. I didn’t get very far on the new set of buildings. I did the dark blue dividing line between the portals and the buildings and discovered that it was one thread lower than needed – so out it came. It’s been restitched and the portals have been started.

3rd corner start

This month we’re supposed to talk about the journey we’ve taken for one of the posted pieces. This mandala was my very first cross stitch purchase in 2011! I worked on the center section and was really enjoying it, beads and all. Then I was having arthritis problems and had to slow down drastically, so it got put away. I had hip replacement surgery in 2012 and slowly got back to my larger projects once again. It’s slow going for me with all the gold top stitching, but I work on it two mornings a week and hope to get it done next year.

2. The Train Stocking for DH. I haven’t added many cross stitches since I posted this earlier this month, but I have started the backstitching. Santa is now visible. I hope to finish the bottom of the stocking in September so I can move to the upper half.

Train St 5

3. Polar Express – You can easily see the curve of the heart on the left side now. The second car is stitched, but needs its cargo of fir trees. I also need to finish the clouds and other trees in the background in the center section of this half. Then I’ll start on the right side with the engine. I doubt that it will be completely finished in Sept, but I can always hope.

Polar-3

4. I’ve started the first of 3 Playful Snowmen ornaments. I want to get at least two of them done by the next report. There are two snowmen on this first ornament – the first one now has a hat and a scarf. These have lots of changes in color so it’s slow work.

Snowman 1-1

I’m hoping to get started on the Hometown Holidays pieces in Sept as well. I now have 3 waiting to be stitched. So maybe one will get done in Sept.
