Wedding Shower Gift

Now that my future (step)DIL has her gift from the shower, I can show it to you.

Since she is Chinese, I felt that the Double Happiness symbol would be quite appropriate.

Stitched over one on 25 ct. Lugana, it took about a month – working about 5 hours a week.

The design was supposed to be done as a wall hanging or pillow, but I thought that would be too big. This is about 5″ square. The off-white frame is from Mill Hill and the opening is about 5.5″ square. It was perfect.

I already heard from the happy couple, saying that both really liked the piece.

Baby Girl House Ornament – Progress 3

I promise that I have been stitching, just not getting a lot done. For the past week, after finishing the ABC Sampler, I’ve been working on a gift for a wedding shower. I can’t show it to you yet, but it was completed yesterday. Yeah!

In the evenings, I’ve picked up the Baby Girl House to work on it for an hour each night. I have now completed side 2.

I want to add a small stitch in Kreinik to the windows and found just the right one this morning. I’ll get that done tonight and continue on the roof of the next section.

There are so many cute little pieces to stitch on this – the rattle hanging from the roof (don’t know why, but okay), the cup and the baby blocks. The cup was stitched with silver Kreinik, everything else is Peper Pot Silk for the details. The pale yellow for the house itself is Vineyard Silk. I needed to buy one more skein of the Vineyard Silk, but all the other threads are from my stash.

I want to continue with this project in the evenings, so I hope I can show you the next side in a week or so.

Unique Needlepoint Gift Idea

I prefer Anchor threads over DMC and my LNS doesn’t sell them. A few years ago I went searching on the Internet for a store that sells them and has an online catalog so I could order them whenever I needed specific colors. I found a place in PA and Jennifer and I have established a great friendship over the years.

My husband wanted to know what I wanted for Christmas and asked about needlepoint stuff. I proposed this idea to him, but he wasn’t sure he wanted to email Jennifer and so forth. So I decided to treat myself! I wrote to Jennifer and told her I needed white mono canvas, white Congress Cloth and some threads. Was she up to a little fun? She said yes.

I told her I wanted to add a little to my stash. I would give her some suggestions on colors and threads and SHE would do all the selections.

She wanted to know if they were all going to be used in the same project -No

Did I want to try some Ribbon Floss – Yes

How much can I spend – Gave her a dollar amount (including the cost of canvas)

Colors – I don’t have much red, black or yellow

Thread – Kreinik 1/16 ribbon (which I love), Snow in different color and Watercolors

She picked out everything she thought I would like and added a few other threads too. My early Christmas present arrived late last week and this is what I got:

Stash5 Watercolors, 5 silk ribbon floss, 7 Kreinik 1/16 ribbon, 3 Snow

Did you know that Kreinik made a two-tone ribbon – this one on the left goes from red to purple and back to red.

You’ll notice that even if they aren’t all used in the same project, most of them can be mixed and matched. I see Moroccan coasters in that red Watercolors. Now to decide what to make using some of those new threads.
